How To: Travel with Cats

As you know, we recently moved from Vancouver to Toronto which is about 4300 km. Our cats came with us on that move. Before I start, there is one thing I hate and that was when people would ask me what we were doing with our cats when we moved. We are bringing them. It never even crossed our mind to leave our pets behind, they are apart of our family and they are completely capable of coming with us.

That being said, I was very anxious about bringing them along especially because Gizmo is a very anxious cat himself. I read horror stories online (of course) and also just plain felt bad. We were moving over a period of 2 long days which is not great for the cats.

When travelling with cats and well, animals in general. You have to figure out what you want to transport them in. Are you going to bring them into the cabin or put them underneath? My suggestion is that if you can, bring them in the cabin with you. Make sure you check your airline restrictions on the carriers as well.

We did our research and it is not recommended to sedate your pets when going on an airplane in case of complications, but a Vet will guide you to go into any pet store and get this liquid that is supposed to calm them down. We tested it 2 days before to make sure there would be no allergy. We did use this the day of and I think it worked on Kitty but Gizmo was way too anxious to even care about any medication telling him to calm down lol.

Try to get them to drink some water and eat a little before and if they do, make sure they go to the bathroom. If they are too nervous to eat, drink or go to the washroom, don't worry. My cats hardly ate or drank anything. Don't worry about them going in their kennel. Animals usually don't soil their beds unless they are still young and don't have much control.

Warning: The airport makes you take your cat out of its carrier and carry it through security while your kennel goes through the machine. Wear long sleeves and maybe bring a harness and leash just in case. We didn't have one because I wasn't prepared for this. Gizmo also scratched my arm up good.

Put one or two toys in their carrier so they have something they know. My cats didn't notice them but it doesn't hurt.

When you reach your destination, your cats will probably be so giddy to get out of the carrier you will realize they are fine. The most exciting part for my cats was when their cat post came. It was something they recognized and it had their scent all over it. They immediately jumped on it so try to bring something that is theirs from home. It will make the transition easier.

In the end, everything worked out and it really wasn't that big of a deal. They lived!

Throwback Thursday (but on Saturday)

After some trouble shooting, I finally got my pictures to load. I had to download Google Chrome (originally use Firefox) and then it seemed to work so we are back on track.

Here is Throwback Thursday (but on Saturday).

Explanation

"Lucy, you have some explaining to do...."

Ok, so I haven't been posting and at first it was because I was settling in and getting into my new routine but now... it is not my fault. I swear!

I tried to do the Throwback Thursday and for some reason, blogger and gmail are not letting me upload pictures. It just doesn't upload them. I also had a few other blog posts planned for you but they all involve pictures :(

Even if not, these blog posts ... like this one, are just lame to read if they don't have visual aid so I apologize for the lack of posts and I hope this gets sorted out soon :(

All moved in! Sort of

By all moved in, I mean our bodies have arrived at our destination in Toronto! Our stuff is still on its way trekking across Canada. Gizmo was going to live update but things got a little hectic....

The moving truck was supposed to show up between 2 and 4. It showed up at 7:30 pm. We didn't even know if it was coming after a certain point which made things a little stressful.

We got back to my Mom's late and then the next day we were off to the airport. I'm going to create some tips for air travel with cats. It was probably a very stressful experience for both of us. I was quite worried about them lol!

But ... we made it and I can resume normal blogging again!

Here are some pictures taken from the move.

After a very long 2 days of stressful travel, Gizmo, who is looking very tense, watches the bags rotate on the carousel in Toronto. For all those wondering, they are very content now, happily exploring their new surroundings.

Moving: Day 1

Hello. I am Gizmo and I will be guest blogging these next few days for my human.

Things are a little chaotic right now so I'm hiding in my cat tree.

Goodbye my companion

Today I sold my car! My little companion for the last 6 years. I learned to drive in that car. That car got me out of many sticky situations... caused by other drivers of course.

So long little Tercel!

MTV Movie Awards

I'm not much of an awards person. I tend to find them boring. I usually just go and look at the winners after. This year, MTV is holding a contest (actually I don't know if that is isolated to this year but I found it this year lol) and you pick who you think will win and you could win $3k and a chance to make a difference for a charity of your choice. So I decided to enter because who knows right?

Here are my picks (which are always biased to what I liked!)

Movie of the year:

Django Unchained
Silver Linings Playbook
Ted
The Avengers
The Dark Night Rises

This one is tough. There are three really good contenders there. I think I'm going to go with...

The Dark Night Rises

Best Male Performance

Been Affleck - Argo
Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
Jamie Foxx - Django Unchained
Channing Tatum - Magic Mike

Ha! I want to pick Channing Tatum and I wonder if he will win out of popularity but I really think...

Ben Affleck - Argo

Best Female Performance

Anne Hathaway - Les Miserables
Mila Kunos - Ted
Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Emma Watson - Perks of Being a Wallflower
Rebel Wilson - Pitch Perfect

Hands down ...

Jennifer Lawrence

Breakthrough Performance

Ezra Miller - Perks of Being a Wallflower
Eddie Redmayne - Les Miserables
Suraj Sharma - Life of Pi
Quvenzhane Wallis - Beasts of the Southern Wild
Rebel Wilson - Pitch Perfect

I didn't see it but I heard rave reviews about it ...

Suraj Sharma - Life of Pi

Best Scared-As-S**t Performance

Jessica Chastain - Zero Dark Thirty
Alexandra Daddario - Texas Chainsaw 3D
Martin Freeman - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Jennifer Lawrence - House at the End of the Street
Suraj Sharma - Life of Pi

I loved this movie. I thought it was really well down and I think this actress did a fantastic job.

Jessica Chastain

Best On Screen Duo

Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson - Django Unchained
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Mark Wahlberg and Set Macfarlane as Ted - Ted
Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo - The Avengers
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis - The Campaign

This is really tough. My pick is mostly because I'm biased towards this movie and also this pair is staring in another movie together as well so that should say something...

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence

Best Shirtless Performance

Christian Bale - The Dark Knight Rises
Daniel Craig - Skyfall
Taylor Lautner - Breaking Dawn
Seth Macfarlane - Ted
Channing Tatum - Magic Mike

Channing Tatum!!!!
Although for some reason I'm thinking Ted might win this one :/

Best Fight

Jamie Foxx vs Candieland Henchmen - Django Unchained
Daniel Crag vs. Ola Rapace - Skyfall
Mark Wahlberg vs. Ted - Ted
The Cast of the Avengers - The Avengers
Christan Bale vs. Tom Hardy - The Dark Knight Rises

Christian Bale vs. Tom Hardy - The Dark Knight Rises
Tom Hardy for real plays that guy?! I'm shocked.

Best Kiss

Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx - Django Unchained
Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman - Moonrise Kingdom
Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg - Ted
Emma Watson and Logan Lerman - Perks of Being a Wallflower

Emma Watson and Logan Lerman - Perks of Being a Wallflower

Best WTF Moment

Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson - Candieland Gets Smoked in Django Unchained
Denzel Washington - Final Descent in Flight
Anna Camp - Hack Appella in Pitch Perfect
Javier Bardem - Oops...There Goes His Face in Skyfall
Ted - Ted Gets Saucy in Ted

Because I thought this entire movie was a WTF moment, I'm going with...

Ted

Best Villain

Javier Bardem - Skyfall
Leonardo DiCaprio - Django Unchained
Marion Cotillard - The Dark Knight Rises
Tom Hardy - The Dark Knight Rises
Tom Hiddleston - The Avengers

Tom Hardy

Best Musical Moment

Anne Hathaway - Les Miserable
Channing Tatum and the rest of that crew - Magic Mike
The Cast of Pitch Perfect - Pitch Perfect
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Emma Watson and the gang - Perks of Being a Wallflower

Consdering this one was an actual musical, I'm going with...

Anne Hathaway - Les Miserables

So yea those are my picks. Let me know what your picks are!

Who knows maybe I will win! Ha.
If I did, I would choose the SPCA as my charity to help. :)

Soapbox Sunday: People who think your statuses are about them

I apologize that this soapbox is kind of all over the place. I was sick while doing it so I hope you understand what I'm talking about. The topic that I did was not really based on what is going on now but more of what happened in the past (me and Brandyn did not break up! lol)

And if you make it to the end of the video there's a bit of a surprise to do with my jim jams.

Throwback Thursday!

Today we are throwing back to my second Disneyland trip back in 2005 (that puts me at 13). We also went to LA, and Knotts Berry Farms which was pretty rad. That was the last time I went to Disneyland.. I'd say I would go again but Disney World is better. :)

For the record, the only thing Disneyland has that Disney World doesn't (that is actually worth while) is the Indiana Jones ride which was pretty cool.

March Favourites

1. Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer - LOVE LOVE this stuff. When I saw it in the store, I picked it up right away. I don't know how I didn't think of this first. Best invention ever. It goes on nice and light, fast and doesn't grease up your hands. I don't think I need to explain anymore!

2. EOS Organic Lip Balm - Well I ran out of my other stuff so I thought I would try this. I recommend this stuff too. It is a little bit weird to get used to put on but you don't notice after a while and I like twirling it on tables and clicking it open and closed :) The packaging is half the fun!

3. Nikon 1 J1 - I love this camera. I got it for Christmas from B and it is so simple and easy to use with great results. I am still learning how to use it and can't wait to get the best quality pictures out of it. If you don't want all the mumbo jumbo of a DSLR but still want the quality and results of one... this is the camera for you dude.

4. Bench Vest - After seeing some polyvore outfit collages with vests, I decided I wanted one. So I went on the hunt for a good vest and couldn't find anything affordable anywhere. I know you are thinking, Bench is not affordable but this vest was only 80 bucks. Comparable to a North Face one at 170. I really like it and the hood pops out of the collar!
